Emnett, Devin ; Beckley, Bob . 2010. Sustainability Solutions No. 5: New Lake Tahoe Fire Station saves energy and reuses waste water. 1073 2T06. Missoula, MT: U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service, Missoula Technology and Development Center.

The newly constructed Spooner Summit Fire Station in the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit in Nevada is designed to save energy and resue waste water. The 3,390-square-foot fire station will be heated and cooled by a ground source heat pump assisted by a solar system that reduces the temperature fluctuations in the heat exchange medium used by the system. The station will store sewage in a vault until the sewage can be hauled away for disposal. The station's waste water will be treated on-sited and reused in the building's toilets to reduce the amount of waste water stored in the vault.
