Beckley, Bob ; Emnett, Devin . 2012. Sustainability Solutions No. 16: Chickamin Barge Brings Sustainable Power to Mobile Remote Work Camps. 1273 2T04. Missoula, MT: U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service, Missoula Technology and Development Center.

Four barges serve as mobile remote work camps for Forest Service employees at the Tongass National Forest in southeast Alaska. Built to last in the various weather conditions, unfortunately these barges consume a lot of diesel fuel. As a quieter, cleaner, and cheaper energy solution, one of the barges (the Chickamin) was retrofitted with energy efficiency upgrades to cover most day–to–day electrical needs.
