The DVD "Comparing the New
Generation and Old-Style Fire
Shelters May 5, 2006" (0751–2D01–MTDC)
shows how the two types of
fire shelters performed during a field
test at a prescribed burn. The test shows
that the New Generation fire shelter can
provide more protection than the old-style
fire shelter. Although the old-style
fire shelter has saved many lives and
prevented serious injuries, neither the
old-style nor the New Generation fire
shelter guarantees a firefighter’s safety.
