The Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation
Equity Act: A Legacy for Users
(SAFETEA-LU) guarantees $244.1 billion of funding for highways, highway safety,
and
public transportation, the largest surface transportation investment in our
Nation's history.
SDTDC developed the SAFETEA-LU training Web site (http://www.fs.fed.us/eng/safetea-lu/) in partnership with the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration and the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management.
The Web site provides an overview of the transportation planning process, including the importance of:
The Web site has training videos and other resources to help Forest Service employees and cooperators understand the programs and funding available to improve safety, relieve congestion, improve efficiency, enhance environmental stewardship, and streamline the environmental process for transportation projects.
The guidebook "Federal Surface Transportation Programs and Transportation Planning for Federal Land Management Agencies–A Guidebook" provides detailed information on how to requests funding for roads, bridges, trails, fish and wildlife passage projects, scenic byways, and other transportation enhancements. This guidebook, developed by SDTDC in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration and Federal Transit Administration; and the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, and Fish and Wildlife Service, is available at http://www.fs.fed.us/eng/pubs/pdf/07771814.pdf.
