The following information was developed for field managers who, through a job hazard analysis, allow personnel under their supervision to carry and use chemical agents (such as oleoresin capsicum aerosols) for the specific purpose of deterring bear attacks. The job hazard analysis ( Form 6700-7), signed by the line officer, is the document that assists personnel who are not law enforcement officers in procuring, transporting, and using chemical agents while on official business. Prior training on the transport and use of any chemical agent is required. The section on Legal Information for Aerosol Defense Sprays provides additional information on restrictions for some areas.
