Mark your calendars: Attend the first SALUTE – Wed, Nov. 10, 1 p.m. EST/11 a.m. MST/10 a.m. PST
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Veterans Day officially falls on Nov. 11 each year. The first event, called "Armistice Day," was held on Nov. 11, 1918, in honor of the first anniversary of World War I. In 1954, the name was changed to Veterans Day.
The new Employee Resource Group for veterans and their allies is called SALUTE. The mission of the Veterans' ERG is to embrace our proud community of Forest Service veterans who support and encourage each other through shared experiences, veteran recruitment, career development, outward engagement, professional growth and retention. Bringing together our unique military service backgrounds, we seek to harness these strengths to serve our organization, community and customers better.
On Nov. 10, 2021, join SALUTE's celebration honoring our past and present veterans. As an organization, SALUTE hopes to grow, learn, and support and aid Forest Service veterans in their professional and personal lives. Guest presenters include:
- Fire and Aviation Director Bob Baird, Pacific Southwest Region
- Associate Deputy Chief Mark Green, Business Operations
SALUTE aims for a diverse and inclusive membership that supports an intersectional and intergenerational community. All Forest Services employees that support SALUTE's vision are welcome to join and benefit from our valuable resources.
