Less than a year after initiating talks aimed at stemming and reversing the tide on non-native species threatening the state’s economy and environment, Hawaii last month released its first comprehensive plan to protect its biosecurity.

The 2017–2027 Hawaii Interagency Biosecurity Plan coordinates strategies among several agencies and partners, including PSW’s Institute of Pacific Islands Forestry. The plan cites the institute’s general technical report “Risk and Pathway Assessment for the Introduction of Exotic Insects and Pathogens that Could Affect Hawaii’s Native Forests” and acknowledges the agency’s efforts in forest health protection and stewardship.
