Rare golden eagle tagged in northwest Georgia
On Feb. 22, Chattahoochee National Forest biologists and West Virginia University researchers captured and tagged an elusive golden eagle, part of a distinct and declining eastern population. The bird’s multiple sightings underscore the value of restoring and maintaining healthy open woodland habitat.
Captured as part of a research study, scientists are banding, measuring and placing transmitters on some eagles to map migration corridors and habitat use.
