Carson NF participates in youth engagement
Carson National Forest participated in three separate youth engagements on three different college campuses with predominantly Hispanic populations in northern New Mexico.
Specialists and employees developed a Forest Service-related outreach and education plan for attending students. Colleges included New Mexico Highlands University, the University of New Mexico, Taos, and Northern New Mexico College. The curriculum centered on the agency’s multiple-use mission and evolving role in managing forests in rural Northern New Mexico. Collaborative Forest Restoration Program, which requires grant recipients to include a youth component, partially funded the engagements.
Since CFRP’s founding in 2001, the Carson has managed 50 grant projects totaling $15,330,205.
