Kaibab creates young citizen scientists
Kaibab National Forest employees taught 140 middle school students in Williams, Arizona, a new way to interact with the forest using their smart phones, creating a small army of citizen scientists.
In early 2017, the Kaibab began a citizen scientist project using iNaturalist. Visitors take photos of plants and animals and post them to the project using a free app. By the end of just one day, students collected over 200 observations.
Later this spring, Kaibab employees will host the students on a field trip to the forest to collect even more data.
