The “Youth & Nature Symposium: Deepening Children’s Connection with the Natural World” took place March 18 at Clark College in Vancouver, Washington.

The event, sponsored by Gifford Pinchot National Forest, brought together 75 environmental education professionals, nature play advocates, child healthcare professionals, school administrators, teachers, PTA members and recreation professionals. Participants gained an understanding of the benefits of connecting youth directly with nature and explored ways to leverage the good work happening in southwest Washington. Presentations by local professionals led attendees to discuss the complex questions of providing access to nature and how to embed the value of stewardship in today’s youth.
