Inspiring next generation of conservation leaders
March 24, the Rochester Ranger District on Green Mountain National Forest hosted 27 kids from two local after-school programs for a Junior Snow Ranger program. There were five stations set up, including snowshoeing, a station to hold animal skins and skulls, a chance to blow bubbles that and watch them freeze, fires in the snow, and outdoor safety/search and rescue, which included search and rescue dogs. Despite cold and wet conditions, the event was a fun and successful way to deliver benefits to the public. The afternoon ended with a surprise visit from Smokey Bear to congratulate the kids and share fire prevention safety tips.
