The International Institute of Tropical Forestry and Washington Office of Conservation Education partnered with the U.S. Embassy and Dominican Republic to facilitate the appearance of Woodsy Owl at this festival. Woodsy was there to raise social awareness on the importance of conserving the environment and to take actions that reduce negative impacts on the planet.
Woodsy visited with local school children and shared his messages "Give a Hoot, Don't Pollute” and “Lend a Hand—Care for the Land!” The children who attended the event received “El Mundo Hay Que Cuidar, Vamos a Empezar” Spanish language Woodsy Owl conservation education materials.
This festival is sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in coordination with the Dominican Republic’s National Botanical Garden, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources and the Propa-Gas Foundation.
