Recently 34 airmen of the 26th Operational Weather Squadron stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, Louisiana, volunteered two hours of their time to help the Kisatchie National Forest ready the Caney Lakes Recreation Area for summer visitors.

As a group, the airmen accomplished 68 hours of much needed work in just two hours. They painted the park entrance gates, trail bridge, information kiosk, and a parking lot to cover graffiti. The also cleaned leaves and debris off roads and parking lots around the day use area.

“Having volunteers lend a hand is a tremendous help as we only have one recreation technician for maintenance on the Caney Ranger District,” remarked Ron Hudson, Caney District Ranger. 

Caney Lakes Recreation Area offers opportunities for bicycling, hiking, picnicking, camping, swimming, boating, water skiing, fishing, and hunting to the Shreveport-Bossier City metropolitan area.
