More than 20 exhibitors shared information ranging from reintroduction of the American Chestnut to water quality to managing invasives in our forests. Live wildlife shows, live music, chainsaw carving, tree pruning and sawmill demonstrations were held. Wood craftsmen demonstrated how a tree becomes a bowl, a cutting board and even a tiny holiday ornament.

Activities using wood and wood products were popular with children of all ages. Films, lectures, tree walks and a special exhibit on Cornelia Pinchot were also offered. Visitors were excited about touring the Grey Towers mansion and learning about Pinchot and the pivotal role he played in America’s conservation of natural resources. Working with numerous partners and colleagues from the Allegheny and White Mountain National Forests, the National Park Service and Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the event remains family-friendly with a strong educational message, promoting stewardship and our natural and cultural heritage of wood.

No doubt, If Gifford Pinchot could have looked out over the great lawn of his home this weekend, he would have been pleased.
