WASHINGTON, DC—National Public Lands Day, the nation's largest single-day volunteer event for public lands, will be celebrated in national forests across the country on Sept. 24, 2022. Established in 1994 and held annually on the fourth Saturday in September, this event attracts thousands of volunteers to help restore and improve public lands around the country.

It might seem a little early to be planning for a September event, but in 2021, attendance was down from pre-pandemic numbers, although we held 46 events and engaged 8,211 volunteers.

That’s why we encourage you to attend the following webinars to learn more about NPLD and how to host an event on your national forest or grassland.

This year’s theme, “Giving Back Together,” highlights the many ways we can build healthy relationships to public lands by volunteering, walking in nature, enjoying picnics, meditating, sitting in a park, exercising, creating art, dancing, fishing and so much more.

Want to get involved in National Public Lands Day this year? Visit the National Environmental Education website to access NPLD information and resources. The foundation coordinates National Public Lands Day.

You can also spread the word about National Public Lands Day using this promotional toolkit, which includes key messaging, social media templates and shareable resources. And, of course, make sure you get out to your local national forest or grassland on Sept. 24 to volunteer and connect with our public lands!
