National Public Lands Day: 30 years of care and community

WASHINGTON, DC—In partnership with National Environmental Education Foundation, the Forest Service is celebrating 30 years of caring and community by inviting you to participate in the 2023 National Public Lands Day. Join us for an agency-wide webinar June 14 at 2:00 pm EDT to learn more about NPLD and how you can get involved. Learn more and register here.
Dedicated volunteers have fueled NPLD since its start in 1993. Over the last 10 years alone, more than a million volunteers have donated their time and expertise to remove invasive species, plant native trees, maintain trail system, and educate the public on the value of our public lands, grasslands and waters. Last year, the Forest Service hosted nearly 300 NPLD events at 85 sites, bringing nearly 12,000 people to our national forests and grasslands.
According to Heidi McAllister, assistant director of Conservation Education, “National Public Lands Day is a chance to give back and strengthen community relationships. Even more, it’s a chance to celebrate the role of our national forests and grasslands in improving our overall health and well-being. We hope to see many Forest Service sites participating this year to engage and educate people of all ages on the value of these public spaces.”
This year NPLD will be held Saturday, Sept. 23. Want to get involved? Join our partners at the National Environmental Education Foundation, along with Forest Service Conservation Education and Volunteer program staff, on Wednesday, June 14 at 2:00 pm Eastern to learn more about NPLD, how you can get involved, and tips and tricks for planning a great event.
