Michelle Curry recognized for outstanding accomplishments

Dr. Michelle Curry, Washington Office Safety Emergency Medical Services program, was recently inducted into the Academy of Wilderness Medicine as a 2023 Fellow. This prestigious recognition, awarded by the Wilderness Medical Society, serves as a testament to Dr. Curry's expertise, dedication and valuable contributions to the field.

The induction ceremony took place July 17 as part of the society’s summer conference in Spokane, Washington. This global event serves as a platform for medical professionals from around the world to exchange knowledge, expertise and best practices in wilderness medicine, highlighting the growing community dedicated to providing care in challenging environments.

Curry's recognition not only showcases her expertise but also highlights her contributions to the Forest Service. She has years of experience—25 of clinical experience as an emergency medicine physician and over 15  as an active duty Army emergency physician and reservist with various deployments. For the last 13 years, she has worked in the office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response and the National Disaster Medical Systems as an intermittent employee on Disaster Medical Assistance Teams, Incident Response Coordination Teams and more.

The Wilderness Medical Society is the leading international organization for medical professionals devoted to facilitating high-quality care in outdoor settings. As a nonprofit organization, the society offers innovative programs, publications, research and certifications to equip members with the necessary tools to practice in any environment.
