Rooted in Research science delivery platform branches out with webinar series
MINNESOTA—Last fall, the Northern Research Station debuted “Rooted in Research” as a bi-monthly digital publication focused on identifying management implications of new science findings for natural resource managers. With three issues of the digital publication out, the Rooted in Research series is branching out.
Beginning in February, Rooted in Research will launch a new webinar series featuring researchers working on a wide range of applied science topics, from prescribed fire and invasive species to socioeconomic considerations in forest management. The series is aimed at land managers in the Region 9/NRS footprint, which extends from Maine to Minnesota and from Missouri to Maryland.
“As one size does not fill all in science communications, we are committed to delivering science using diverse formats,” said Andrea Brandon, science delivery specialist of the Northern Research Station. “Our goal through the Rooted in Research communications platform is to build and strengthen lasting relationships between the research and land management communities.”
Rooted in Research Webinars will be one hour long and take place on the first Wednesday of each month at 12:30 p.m. EST. Each month will feature two 20-minute presentations on a similar theme, followed by Q&A and discussion to give participants time to connect with researchers.
A discussion on the latest in prescribed fire science will kick off the series. Research ecologist Mike Gallagher will present on how prescribed fire can reduce tick-borne disease prevalence, and research forester Nick Skowronski will shed light on the use of automated laser scanning for plot-level fuel loading and fire effects.
