Kaibab National Forest helps illuminate lives of northern Arizona’s black pioneers
Kaibab National Forest heritage program manager Margaret Hangan was one of a few local scholars who presented research at a Feb. 23 event in Flagstaff devoted to the history of northern Arizona’s black community titled “Hidden and Revealed: Revisiting the African American Experience in Northern Arizona.”
The well-attended presentation was hosted by Kaibab National Forest, National Park Service, Arizona Historical Society Pioneer Museum and Flagstaff Arts Council. It explored the history of African Americans in the Southwest, including their work on public lands in northern Arizona.
