Take the opportunity to Show Some Love with CFC

WASHINGTON — The annual Combined Federal Campaign is a giving tradition that has raised more than $8 billion for charitable organizations to date. This year, employees are encouraged to “Show Some Love” to the causes they care about. Pledges from donors during the campaign, which runs through Dec. 15, support nonprofits throughout the world. Last year, federal employees raised more than $167 million for the causes they were passionate about.

Thousands of charities participate in the campaign, and you decide what organizations you want to support — no matter your cause, there is a charity for you to support.

Did you know that just $3 a month can provide 100 meals for people in need? That’s possible through the buying power and partnerships your local food bank has in place. If you give up just two Starbucks runs per month, you can affect the lives of many.

You know you can support the campaign through a paper pledge card or the website, and you can donate via electronic check, payroll deduction or credit card. But this year, there’s something new. You can pledge time. Participants can now choose to pledge volunteer hours to a local charity.

This year is also the first year retirees can participate in the campaign. They, too, can pledge their support to participating charities in much the same way they did while federal employees.

There are events being held throughout the federal government to raise awareness about this year’s campaign, so keep an eye on your inbox for information about local events, and consider showing some love before the campaign ends Dec. 15.
