Tongass National Forest celebrates Alaska Native civil rights pioneer

On Feb 16, the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center in Ketchikan, Alaska, held a theater dedication in honor of Alaskan civil rights pioneer Elizabeth Peratrovich.

With Peratrovich’s granddaughter in attendance, as well as dignitaries from the Alaska Native Brotherhood and Alaska Native Sisterhood, the Discovery Center also unveiled a permanent exhibit to share the cultural and historical significance of the fight for Alaska Native civil rights. Portions of the ceremony and celebration were broadcast live via Facebook and Twitter, and were viewed by more than 9,000 people across Alaska and the Lower 48.
