On Monday, Nov. 11, we are honored to thank our nation’s veterans for supporting and defending our country. This is a day when, as a nation, we take time to acknowledge those who placed service before self on a daily basis. Their hard work keeps us safe and protected, while defending our way of life.

On behalf of the agency, I recognize and acknowledge all the veterans who continue their public service as proud members of the Forest Service. They bring their experience and their commitment to the table every day, capturing the spirit of our core values of service to the American people, to ourselves and to each other.

There are more than 18 million veterans in the United States. In a nation of more than 300 million, these relative few answer a call to service, and we are grateful.

Every veteran took an oath to put their country first. They swore to defend our nation, support one another through any hardship and conduct themselves honorably. By continuing to live these principles, they help us to be a values-based, purpose-driven, relationship-focused organization. We are fortunate to have their diversity of experiences and leadership as we deliver our mission to care for national forests and grasslands and serve the American people.

Through their example, they inspire us to be better and to do better, to persevere through difficult challenges, and to care for each other along the way. For this reason, I am truly honored these veterans chose to the Forest Service as a way to continue their journey of service to this nation.

To all of our veterans, thank you for all you have done and all you continue to do for our country. I encourage all employees to join me in thanking them and remembering them, not just this Veterans Day, but every day.
