BIOS (basic input/output system) updates are being deployed to USDA Forest Service Hewlett-Packard (HP) desktop and laptop computers to remediate vulnerabilities. The BIOS is a program pre-installed on Windows-based computers that the computer uses to start up. To learn more about the upcoming BIOS updates, please read the instructions below.

What you need to do

  • Please note BIOS updates will occur when a new version is available
  • To learn what to expect before, during and after a BIOS update, please refer to KBA00109256 FS: HP BIOS Update Push. It’s important that you read the document and become familiar on what to do when the update occurs on your computers
  • To check when your machine is scheduled to receive the BIOS update, please visit the Desktop Software Release Calendar site, click on HP BIOS Update and find your model number
  • If you turn on your computer and receive the HP BIOS Update notification on the screen, please do not interrupt the process or do not turn your machine off while the update is still in progress. Allow the update to finish.
