OneUSDA: Breaking the Bias webinar

March 8, 2022

As shared in the Women’s History Month message last week, this month we will showcase the accomplishments of women to our culture and society. We draw strength and inspiration from the remarkable women that came before us, who contributed to the fabric of our nation, and who today continue to make ripples of change and progress to make us a more perfect union. We kicked off the month-long celebration with a live event between the Deputy Secretary and Kendall Rae Johnson, an inspiring young African American producer who at six years old is Georgia’s youngest certified farmer.

Today, Tuesday, March 8, from 2:00-3:30 PM EST , the USDA Office of Partnerships and Public Engagement is hosting the Breaking the Bias International Women’s Day webinar with remarks from department leadership and presentations from international stakeholders. This event is open to all staff. Register in advance.

The Office of the Assistant Secretary of Civil Rights will continue to partner with the Office of Human Resources Management as well as agencies and staff offices across USDA to coordinate and collaborate on celebrations for special emphasis months. Please see the Women’s History Month calendar of events, which lists other agency-specific and department-wide opportunities to learn about and celebrate the contributions of women. These events support our vision to build a modern workplace that advances diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility at all rungs of our organization.

Lastly, for those of you who are in the National Capital Region, consider visiting the “If/Then Collection” exhibit on the grounds of the Smithsonian and around the National Mall. The exhibit, also available virtually, is a monumental exhibit of 120 3-D printed statues celebrating contemporary women innovators in science, technology, engineering and math and features the most statues of real women ever assembled together. It is also the largest free resource of its kind dedicated to increasing access to authentic and relatable images of real women in STEM. Our very own, Dr. Chavonda Jacobs-Young, is one of 120 women being featured.
