1340-Management Improvement Administration (08/02/2021)

At the Deputy Chief’s request, a review was undertaken for currency of Forest Service Manual (FSM) 1300 – Management Chapter 40 – Management Improvement Administration section 1345 – Patents.  Intellectual property technology transfer which incorporates the Forest Service Patent program is an ecosystem that is subject to changes in both policies and laws/regulations.  The current section of FSM 1300, 1345 – Patents, was outdated related to current Patent Program policy and incomplete regarding authorities and regulations. The current policies, authorities, and regulations are now reflected in the revised directive and will be communicated to relevant program managers/subject-matter-experts as well as to regional and national Forest Service Leadership through the Research and Development Newsletter and Forest Service Policy Report.
