Remembering William Jaros

July 14, 2017

I am deeply saddened to report the death of acting Engine captain William “Bill” Jaros, an employee of the Six Rivers National Forest who lost his life on July 8, 2017, while participating in physical training.  He was on a conditioning hike with several crew members and became ill, then collapsed.  Immediate Life-saving efforts were initiated, however bill was not able to be revived.

Bill was a firefighter with the Forest Service for over 12 years on an engine crew assigned to the Gasquet Ranger District/Smith River National Recreation Area.

In this time of sadness, please take time to reflect and be situationally aware of others and your surroundings.  I know that you share with me my deepest condolences for Bill’s family, colleagues, his friends and co-workers on the Six Rivers National Forest, and join me in honoring his dedicated service.
