First annual trail skills day at Ochoco NF

Nine volunteers with the Central Oregon Trails Alliance spent a day at the Cougar West Trail on the Ochoco National Forest to learn trail building and maintenance skills from the Ochoco’s recreation staff. The volunteers were taught about water bars, clearing brush and trail safety. Forest invasive plant program manager, Sarah Callaghan, gave a rundown on invasive species management. The Central Oregon Trails Alliance is planning to work with the recreation staff on regular trail maintenance activities in the future.
