WASHINGTON, D.C.—Each year the Work Environment and Performance Office’s Conflict Management and Prevention Center (internal link) develops an agency-wide training plan with you in mind. The center offers monthly live webinars (internal link) and has a host of recordings of previous training opportunities available to you on Microsoft Stream and SharePoint (internal link).

The goal of these offerings is to equip and empower employees with the tools they may need to navigate challenging situations. This has been even more critical over the past few years as we’ve needed to be reminded of how to lead with compassion, to stay connected when we may feel isolated, and to be patient, respectful and communicative. The center strives to provide you with training to help navigate these challenges, maintain morale and create a respectful work environment.

One popular training, “How to Build a High Morale Workplace,” speaks to creating a thriving workplace. This recorded webinar is great for sharing with staff and peers or watching together during a unit meeting. You could even invite CMPC (internal link) to share the session live with your group! There are many other new offerings, such as “Approval Addiction; Overcoming the Need to Please Everyone,” “Understanding Conflict,” and more. We encourage you to review our full CMPC webinar series schedule of events (internal link) and attend any and all events that resonate with you.

Leaders have a big part in creating that thriving workplace by building a community that’s inclusive, where everyone feels safe, in every way—physically, psychologically and socially. It’s said that the three things we all want in the workplace are to be heard, feel valued and have a sense of belonging. The added element needed for leaders is being able to show empathy and compassion and, better yet, to lead with it.

In February, the center is hosting “How to be a Top Boss without Losing your Humanity,” based on Kim Scott’s book, “Radical Candor.” According to Scott, Radical Candor is a management philosophy based on “caring personally while challenging directly.” In this webinar, you might find your own way to be a better boss, have more success at work and do it with more happiness. You’ll also learn ways to establish trust with your employees, get ideas for receiving, giving and encouraging praise and criticism, and techniques for avoiding boredom and burnout. Lastly, we will help you get work done together—faster. This session will be held on Feb. 16, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. E.T. Visit our website for information on how to join and to add this event to your Outlook calendar.

Additionally, part of the center’s mission is to help you invest in yourself and your relationships and build and strengthen your core competencies around communication and self-awareness. Some of our newest training offerings (internal link) involve self-assessments such as EQi, which helps develop your emotional and social intelligence. There is also training that involve the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and DISC assessment—both of which involve increased self-awareness, allowing for personal growth and continued professional development.

The center strives to hit the mark with our customers by developing a training plan that addresses your concerns based on the trends we watch carefully throughout every region. We are listening to your feedback after our webinars, alternative dispute resolution sessions, and we just listen, intently, with every call—carefully noticing what’s needed on the ground. We welcome your feedback (internal link) on our courses and encourage you to make suggestions for future topics (internal link).
