WASHINGTON, DC—April is National Volunteer Month, a month dedicated to recognizing the importance of volunteering and honoring the significant contributions volunteers make by generously donating their time to the accomplish the Forest Service mission: to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the nation’s forests and grasslands to meet the needs of present and future generations.

In 2021 alone, 66,159 Forest Service volunteers dedicated 3,632,096 hours with an appraised value of $103,660,019.

Each week in April, the Volunteer and Services team will highlight the volunteer program. Please look for information in your email and on our national Facebook and Twitter accounts. We encourage every unit to acknowledge its own volunteers during Volunteer Week, April 17-23. 

We ask all Forest Service employees to help spread the word about our amazing volunteers. Reach out to your Public Affairs Officer and share the volunteer stories that you are proud of!
