Visitor donations now available via Recreation.gov
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Visitors now have the opportunity to donate to national forests and grassland locations that are important to them while making an advanced reservation or visiting Recreation.gov. The Forest Service is pleased to offer this option to give visitors another way to voluntarily support their public lands.
Visitors to the site can donate to local forests or grasslands to help sustain the health, diversity and productivity of their public lands. The donation option will be presented during the checkout process when making a reservation as well as the forest-level webpage, where they can donate without making a reservation.
The maximum one-time, tax-deductible allowable donation is $50. Visitors will receive confirmation of their donation along with a thank you letter, which will serve as their proof of donation for tax purposes.
Donations made through Recreation.gov will benefit Forest Service recreation facilities and amenities, increasing capacity to care for the places people enjoy visiting. There is a three percent service fee associated with each donation to cover Recreation.gov development and support costs.
More information can be found at the Donation Services page or though this Help Center article “How Can I Donate to My Favorite Recreation.gov Location?".
The Forest Service is grateful to anyone who wishes to give back to their national forests and grasslands.
