Thousands of ornaments made by Montana residents will deck the 2017 Capitol Christmas Tree. This year, the Kootenai National Forest in northwestern Montana is on tap to supply the Christmas tree. The as yet-to-be selected tree will arrive on the west lawn of the United States Capitol for the holiday festivities.
Kootenai National Forest guidance asks that ornaments be made from wood, metal or recycled materials. The ornament should reflect Montana’s cultural heritage, natural resources, historical people or events.
Earlier this month, public affairs specialists from the Northern Region donated time and talent to create some of the nature-based ornaments that will adorn the tree.
Anyone wishing to help provide ornaments should contact the forest at 406-293-6211 or visit its website.
The last time the Kootenai National Forest supplied the tree was in 1989, and it was an Engelmann spruce.
