On June 1, a ceremony was held to celebrate the long-term conservation of 175 acres of meadows and forest, previously owned by Dartmouth College. When the college announced their intentions to sell the land, conservationists stepped in to protect the parcel to safeguard public access to the Appalachian Trail near Hanover, NH, as well as provide critical habitat for endangered wildlife. With assistance from the Land and Water Conservation Fund and private donors, the land was conveyed to the National Park Service and added to the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. This parcel will then be conveyed to the White Mountain National Forest as the local land manager of the Appalachian Trail in New Hampshire.
