Land & Resources Management

Trail of LakesRestoring historic landscapes has been a major goal of the Apalachicola National Forest since its inception. Most of the region had been heavily timbered for its longleaf pine.

Ongoing management of the forest has led to restoration of large swaths of original longleaf pine and wiregrass ecosystems crucial for certain key species such as the red-cockaded woodpecker.
