SECURE RURAL SCHOOLS LANDS SALES PROPOSAL NOT ADOPTED BY CONGRESS

The Lands Sales proposal associated with the Secure Rural Schools Act Reauthorization was not acted on by Congress. The proposal to utilize land sales to partially fund Secure Rural School payments is not included in the President's FY '09 Budget request to Congress. The Forest Service does not have the authority to sell the lands that were displayed on the list, however, the Agency may consider disposing of these lands through land exchange.
