Status Update of Recreation Areas

In response to guidance from state health officials and experts at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), recreation facilities were temporarily shut down or services reduced. As we work toward opening the recreation areas, expect sites to reopen on a case-by-case basis, sometimes with modified operations. Please be patient during the transition as the Ouachita National Forest continues to monitor the COVID-19 situation.

Ozark-Ouachita Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) Meeting

On August 29, 2019, the Ozark-Ouachita Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) will be meeting to review Title II proposals at the Ozark-St. Francis National Forests Supervisor’s Office, 605 West Main, Russellville AR 72801. The committee is authorized under the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act and operates in compliance with the Federal Advisory Committee Act.  The meeting will begin at 1:00PM CST. All RAC meetings are subject to cancellation. Ouachita National Forest Turned 110 Years Old

The Ouachita National Forest turned 110 years old on December 18, 2017. 
Over these years, the 1.8 million acres Ouachita National Forest has managed the forest for a number of multiple uses, including timber, wilderness, recreation, minerals, water and wildlife in Arkansas and Oklahoma.

50th anniversary of the National Trails System Act and the Wild and Sceni

In 2018, America will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the National Trails System Act as well as the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act. Join the celebration by attending an event or simply getting out on the trail – and maybe bringing along a friend.
