The Western Montana Acquisition Zone (WMAZ), headquartered in Missoula, MT, currently provides shared services for contracting and acquisition services for the Lolo, Bitterroot, and Flathead national forest's, the Missoula Technology Development Center, Aerial Fire Depot, and the Arthur Carhart National Wildlands Training Center.

The Bitterroot National Forest contributes substantially to the economies of the local communities located throughout the Bitterroot Valley by contracting with various businesses and citizens for the procurement and acquisition of goods and services.  Services are provided through purchasing, contracts, and other various contract tools.

Contract services include:

  • Fuels reduction projects
  • Construction of trails
  • Service contracts such as janitorial services
  • Contracting construction needed for construction or repairs of facilities
  • Other various commodities and services

Purchases from local vendors for needed supplies to support fire incidents might include:

  • Water, fuel, batteries, medical supplies, mechanic services, tires, etc...
  • Lodging, portable toilets, and equipment rentals such as excavators, backhoes, and water trucks
