Each year, Forest Service employees across the nation develop and provide a wide diversity of education materials that help connect kids to nature through meaningful outdoor experiences. From the new Smokey Bear Story Book, to Woodsy Owl's ABCs, to new curricular materials -- these materials bring our conservation education message to children throughout the United States.

National Information on Conservation Education (NICE) Database
The National Information for Conservation Education (NICE) Database is the primary way that we track and monitor programs and activities in conservation education across the nation. This online, searchable database of education programs is a terrrific clearinghouse for finding programs and resources that connect children with nature. Program reports include goals and objectives, partners, and contact information. Search the database by area, type or topic.

Job Corps Curriculum

Partnering with the Job Corps and with the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE), Conservation Education led the development of a suite of high-quality curriculum materials and activities for use throughout the Job Corps network. Currently the following materials are available for use: Climate Change, Sustainability, and Green Jobs.  Additional curriculum topics and materials are being developed.


Smokey Bear Story Book

Smokey Big Book

The Smokey Bear Big Book is brand new! It is an illustrated book that narrates the story of the living Smokey. The book is to be read to young children. The story is narrated in both English and Spanish languages. Its colorful illustrations can be used to incorporate a variety of topics and concepts while reading the story. At the end, there is a teacher's page with this book's correlation to the national standards of learning, suggestions on activities, and additional resources you can use to engage children to team up with Smokey Bear to prevent wildfires.
