Over three million acres, and known as one of the most ecologically diverse landscapes in the area with three gateways to Yellowstone National Park, a million-plus acres of Wilderness including the Absaroka-Beartooth & Lee Metcalf Wilderness, 7 distinct districts, rugged mountain adventures to remote buttes and bluffs in southeastern MT and SD.

  Most of the Custer Gallatin National Forest is bear country. For your safety and the safety of our native wildlife in Montana, be bear aware, all year long! A food storage order is in place for five of the seven districts. Learn what you can do to properly hike, recreate and be bear aware.
