Volunteering

Klamath Basin Outdoor Group clears trail on the Fremont-Winema NFThe opportunities for volunteers are many and varied. Assistance may be provided to any Forest Service program or activity, but cannot include the performance of law enforcement duties or service as a union steward. Your talents, skills and work preference are matched with the Agency's mission to ensure a mutually beneficial partnership. You may work part-time or full-time; participate in a one-time project or serve over several months, seasons, or year-round. The commitment you make is up to you. Examples of volunteer opportunities include serving as a camp host, front desk receptionist, recreation maintenance helper, or natural resource survey helper.

Some volunteers choose to donate their time and energy through an organization that models their values. Check out some partner organizations the Forest relies on to perform recreation site maintenance and trail repair:

  • Pacific Crest Trail Association

    Annually, 700-800 people hike and just as many volunteer to maintain the congressionally designated Pacific Crest Trail. The Forest relies on partnership with the PCTA to provide access and upkeep for this unique opportunity.

  • Oregon Timber Trail Alliance

    The Oregon Timber Trail Alliance (OTTA) has devoted its resources to the Fremont National Recreation Trail, a 98-mile section of the OTT that runs through the Lakeview, Paisley and Silver Lake Ranger Districts of the Fremont-Winema National Forest since 2015.

  • Oregon Natural Desert Association

    Oregon Natural Desert Association (ONDA) assists the Fremont-Winema National Forest with recreation site maintenance and restoration projects, and encourages exploration, appreciation and stewardship of Oregon’s Fremont National Recreation Trail.

  • High Desert Trail Riders

    High Desert Trail Riders (HDTR) Chapter of the Back Country Horsemen of Oregon is part of a national organization committed to keeping public lands equestrian accessible and educating the public about equestrian skills. Trail crews across the Forest rely on them to pack in heavy equipment, camp supplies, and tools.

  • Klamath Trails Alliance

    The Klamath Trails Alliance (KTA) works with the Fremont-Winema National Forest enables invaluable maintenance of some of your favorite Forest trails in Klamath County.

  • Klamath Basin Outdoor Group

    The Klamath Basin Outdoor Group (KBOG) is an informal hiking and volunteer trail maintenance group that meets on Facebook to hike local trails and lend their assistance to their upkeep. Their partnership with the Fremont-Winema National Forest keeps wilderness trails open and enjoyable for Klamath Basin communities.
