More Kids in the WoodsThere is growing evidence that today's children are gravitating away from outdoor experiences and towards a virtual indoor reality. This disconnect from nature has serious long-term implications for the health and well-being of our nation's children. More Kids in the Woods (a US Forest Service Program) aims to engage children through:

  • Outdoor recreation activities that increase personal fitness, self-esteem and social skills.
  • Nature-based learning that improves academic performance and standardized test scores.

Through conservation education curriculum geared towards improving academic performances and standardize text scores the National Forests in Florida can play a key role in:

  • Helping children develop a connection to their natural world.
  • Helping children and adults keep fit and bind family and friends through nature based activities.
  • Developing new partnership opportunities with nonprofit organizations and local governments oriented towards nature-based youth programs.
