Workshops and Training Opportunities

The Wood Education and Resource Center is working with various partners throughout the eastern United States in sponsoring, developing and hosting various workshops and training opportunities for the primary and secondary hardwood industries. Please check this site periodically for upcoming events.

Directions from Blacksburg, VA.

Take State Route 460 West (approximately 45 miles). At Princeton, take I-77 North. Go approximately 5 miles and take Exit 14. At end of exit ramp, turn left. Go approximately .25 mile. Take a right on Corn Bread Ridge Road. Go approximately .25 mile. Road will take a sharp left. Go straight. The Wood Education and Resource Center is the blue building on the left.Directions from Charleston, WV.

Take the WV Turnpike/I-77 South (approximately 85 miles). Take Exit 14. At end of exit ramp, turn right. Go approximately .25 mile. Take a right on Corn Bread Ridge Road. Go approximately .25 mile. The road will take a sharp left. Go straight. The Wood Education and Resource Center is the blue building on the left Directions from Wytheville, VA.

Take I-77 North (approximately 40 miles). Take Exit 14. At end of exit ramp, turn left. Go approximately .25 mile. Take a right on Corn Bread Ridge Road. Go approximately .25 mile. Road will take a sharp left. Go straight. The Wood Education and Resource Center is the blue building on the left.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have wireless internet connections available? 
Yes... If you have a computer with wireless capability, you can now connect in the WERC facility. Open your Network Connections, and double click on Wireless Network Connection. When the "Choose a wireless network window" opens, select "0013A3DD8436" if you are in the office and "Frontier" if you are in the Training Center

What are your normal business hours?
WERC’s normal business hours are from 7:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. with the exception of federal holidays.

Do you provide coffee, drinks, food, cups, eating utensils, napkins, etc. for workshops?
As a federal agency, we cannot purchase these types of items with taxpayers' dollars.

Can you open early to accommodate caterers, breakfasts, etc.?
Yes, we can open early and can also stay later to accommodate workshops that end later in the day. Please request this when setting up your workshop.

How can I register to have a workshop at your facility?

We will be charging a fee for our workshop.  Who will be responsible for collecting the fee?
The person/group sponsoring the workshop will be responsible for collecting the fee.

How many people can you accommodate in your training room?
Our Training Center is designed to accommodate 46 people.
