Managing Eastern Hemlock, A Preliminary Guide

Eastern hemlock was heavily used as a building material by early American homebuilders, but with the depletion of old growth forests at the turn of the 20th century its use declined. With the maturity of second-growth stands, hemlock is poised to once again become an important forest resource. This publication is intended to provide field foresters with the best technical information available for effective management of hemlock stands. A secondary objective is to encourage foresters to promote hemlock as a local source of raw material for the housing industry.
