Brownfield to Green Space Along the Maumee River in Ohio

Ohio’s legacy of steel and manufacturing left many abandoned industrial sites with high concentrations of steel slag, soil contaminants, and large areas of impervious surface. In Toledo, the site conditions, combined with rain storms, contribute to storm water runoff that carries polluted sediment and high-velocity storm water flows into the Maumee River and Lake Erie.
