  • Explore a National Scenic Trail

Porcupine Lake/Porcupine Wilderness Area - 9:00 a.m. – Noon:  Have you ever hiked on a National Scenic Trail?  Here is your chance! Join members of the Chequamegon Chapter of the North Country Trail Association as they lead a variety of hikes in 2018. Get to know the premier North Country National Scenic Trail that traverses the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest.  All hikes are FREE!  You can participate as often as you like.  Bring sturdy hiking shoes/boots, weather-appropriate clothing, bug repellent, water, a snack and trekking poles (if you desire).

Meet hike leader, Tom Matthiae, at the Porcupine Lake Parking Area on Porcupine Lake Road (FR 213) about 1.2 miles east of South Lake Owen Drive and hike into the wilderness area.  During this slow and meandering hike, participants will look and listen for the many forest songbirds birds that frequent the area.  Total hike time will be 2 – 3 hours.
