The USDA Forest Service on Wednesday will host its Washington, D.C.-area public information meeting on the Roadless Area Conservation proposed rule and draft environmental impact statement (DEIS). The meeting is scheduled for 5 to 9 p.m. at the Hyatt Arlington Hotel, 1325 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, Va. The proposed rule and DEIS were released May 9 for public review and comment.
The information meeting will be held in the Hyatt Senate Salon Conference rooms on the second floor. The facilities are fully accessible for persons with disabilities and sign language interpretation will be provided during presentations.
Forest Service officials will be present to outline the proposal and answer questions. Maps, summaries and other handouts will be available, along with copies of the proposed rule, DEIS, summaries, and information on ordering a copy of the documents. A presentation outlining the roadless proposal will be shown several times between 5 and 9 p.m.
Participants may visit at any time during the evening and are welcome to submit written comments. Written comments may also be submitted during the comment period, which closes July 17.
The Forest Service will sponsor a follow up public comment forum June 26, from 5 to 10 p.m. at the same Hyatt site. At this meeting, members of the public will have the opportunity to voice their comments to a panel of Forest Service officials. A court reporter will record comments for the formal record. Written comments will be accepted at both the information meeting on May 24 and the public comment forum on June 26.
