Local Fire Information Contact: (406)754-2295

Fire Size: Estimated at 4,000 Acres

Percent Contained: 0%

Cooperating Agencies: USFS, DNRC, Missoula County Sheriff, Condon Fire Department

Cause: Suspected Lightning

Current Fire Status: Favorable weather conditions resulted in little growth of the Crazy Horse Fire yesterday. Local firefighters took advantage of the improved weather and made progress just west of Kraft Creek, with line construction and holding operations along the Kraft Creek road. Three 20 person hand crews, five engines and two to three helicopters worked all day to provide an "anchor point" for the firefighting effort.

Operational Plan for Today: Firefighters will continue to construct, hold, and improve fire-line along the east-southeast flank of the fire. This area represents the greatest threat to private residences, and also needs to be reinforced in case of a weather change. The west flank of the fire in the Wilderness is being monitored, while locations for attacking the fire in the north will be scouted.

A Type 1 Incident Management Team from California (Scott Vail; Incident Commander) arrived yesterday to assist in fire fighting efforts. Vail’s team assumed management of the fire this morning, and is coordinating with local fire fighters today to ensure continued progress.

Current Road and Trail Closures: Residents living in Kraft Creek and Guest Ranch Road are still under a preliminary evacuation warning.

Current closures include: Elk Creek Trail #30, Elk Ridge Trail # 301, Hemlock Feeder Trail #695, Glacier Creek Trail #690, Glacier Lake Feeder Trail #742, Turquoise Lake Trail #708, Glacier Slough Trail #481, Lindbergh Lake Roads 79 and 79c, Lindbergh Lake Campground, and Kraft Creek Road #561.
