Flathead National Forest Website: www.fs.fed.us/r5/fire/ciimt5/ac/ Fire Size: Estimated at 7,000 acres Percent Contained: 0% Cooperating Agencies: BLM, USFS, DNRC, Missoula County Sheriff, Condon Fire Department Cause: Lightning Current Fire Status: The fire made significant runs yesterday around three-thirty in the afternoon. It pushed in a northeast and easterly direction. Due to very dry fuels and windy conditions, it burned very actively producing two large columns of smoke. Flame lengths of 100 feet were reported during the most active period. All previously constructed fire line was over-run due to the extreme fire behavior. Firefighters continued as long as possible but were forced to move to safe zones created for their protection. Thanks to yesterday’s efforts, including many local firefighting units, no structures were damaged or destroyed by this fire. Missoula County Sheriff’s Office conducted a mandatory evacuation Wednesday August 13th at 6:00 pm for the residents along Kraft Creek Road. Also impacted by the evacuation notice were certain residents on Pine Ridge Road and Lundberg Road. Evacuation pre-alerts were issued to Guest Ranch Road residents. Operational Plan for Today: Firefighting activities today will focus on structure and population protection. Evacuation notices remain in effect. Additional firefighters and equipment have come from as far away as Mississippi and Michigan. The arrival of fresh resources nearly tripled the total number of personnel assigned. More hand-crews, dozers and engines are expected to report to the Incident Command Post over the next few days. Current closures include: Kraft Creek Road, Pine Ridge Road, Lundberg Road, Elk Creek Trail #30, Elk Ridge Trail #301, Hemlock Feeder Trail #695, Glacier Creek Trail #690, Glacier Lake Feeder Trail #742, Turquoise Lake Trail #708, Glacier Slough Trail #481, Lindbergh Lake Roads 79 and 79c, and Lindbergh Lake Campground.
