Current Status: The Crazy Horse Fire was not very active yesterday due to an inversion layer that settled in for most of the day. Water-dropping helicopters were only able to fly sporadically in the afternoon due to smoky conditions. The inversion layer lifted in the late afternoon, and the fire burned move actively in a northeasterly direction. Firefighters worked to build fire line along Road 9578 (between Kraft Creek Road and Lindbergh Lake Road). The crews also did structure protection in the areas immediately threatened by the fire.

The fire size has reached 7,700 acres and containment is zero percent. No structures have been burned to date and there has been one injury reported. This fire was caused by one or more lightning strikes during a storm on August 8, 2003. Approximately 431 personnel from the following have been assigned: Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Indian Affairs, U.S. Forest Service, Montana DNRC, Missoula County Sheriff, and Condon Fire Department. Resources assigned to the fire include: 15 crews, 13 engines, 21 dozers, 4 water tenders and 2 helicopters.

Operational Plan for today: Firefighting activities will continue to focus on structure and population protection. Line construction continued into the night last night and the crews working today will be extending the existing line along the eastern edge. The fire has spread to the northeast over the last few days.

Evacuation notice remain in effect on Kraft Creek Road and Pine Ridge Road. Advisory warnings have been issued to Holland Lake, Lindberg Lake and Guest Ranch Road.
