Current Status: Yesterday’s firefighting efforts were assisted by favorable conditions resulting in more perimeter control work and the first day of minimal fire spread. Water-dropping helicopters were not hampered by the smoky conditions of the previous few days and were able to fly throughout the daylight hours dropping water on various hot spots along the fireline. The evening shift continued to make good progress on the fire with crews and engines. The fire size has reached 9,475 acres and containment is at 15 percent. No structures have been burned to date and there has been one injury reported to date. The Crazy Horse Fire has been determined to be lightning caused. As of last evening at 6:00 p.m., 594 personnel have been assigned to the Crazy Horse Fire. Cooperating agencies include: Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Indian Affairs, U.S. Forest Service, Montana DNRC, Missoula County Sheriff, and Condon Fire Department. Resources assigned to the fire include: 13 crews, 43 engines, 37 dozers, 7 water tenders and 2 helicopters.

Operational Plan: Structure protection continues to be a high priority while improving and holding existing line around the fire perimeter. Efforts are also aimed now towards fire control with direct attack in the wilderness boundary areas. Special consideration for evening operations includes falling trees both inside and along the perimeter of the fire line.
